All School Announcements
October Monthly Progress was sent on Friday, responses are due by Wednesday, November 6th. Also, in the progress response comment please only write thank you, received, or something along those lines. If you have specific questions about your students’ progress or class work, please email that teacher directly. The teachers do not have access to the responses.
Monthly progress is based on a 1-4 scale. Please note that the letter grade assigned for progress is only used for progress, and does not go on transcripts. All students who have a 2 or above are making Satisfactory progress.
Evaluation Rubric
4- Satisfactory - Based on the teacher’s methods of evaluation, the student is not only making consistent progress toward meeting class objectives as stated in the class learning activities and learning goals but also shows leadership and helps others to meet those goals as well.
3 - Satisfactory - Based on the teacher’s methods of evaluation, the student is making consistent progress toward meeting class objectives as stated in the class learning activities and learning goals.
2- Satisfactory Needs Improvement - Based on the teacher’s methods of evaluation, the student is making progress toward meeting some of the class objectives as stated in the class learning activities and learning goals.
1 - Unsatisfactory Concerned - Based on the teacher’s methods of evaluation, the student is not making progress toward meeting the class objectives as stated in the class learning activities and learning goals.
In honor of Veterans Day we would love to collect photos of parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and siblings that have served or who are currently serving. If you sent pictures last year we still have the photos and you do not need to send them in again. If you did not share your veteran’s photo please email a .jpg to [email protected] Please include a caption with the name, military branch, dates of service if known. You’re invited to share lunch with our students while the slide show plays. Thank you for providing pictures by Thursday, November 7. The slideshow presentation will be in the Commons between 11:15 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 12.

Lunch Menu change: ORLA's Thanksgiving Feast will be Thursday, November 21st.
A special thank you to the ORLA families who have taken the time to complete the required yearly forms from OSD. This week the office will be sending individual emails to those students/families who still need to complete forms. Please make sure to complete these forms as soon as possible.
The Lion's Club will be at ORLA for our annual Vision and Hearing Screening the morning of December 4th, 2019. We need 4 to 6 parent volunteers from 8:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Volunteers will assist with hearing screening, escorting students to and from class, and being a "runner' for anything else that may be needed. hConnect & iConnect
Do you have a 12 and older student at ORLA? Are you or another family member on campus frequently? If so, ORLA requires family and 12 and older to wear an ID Badge. This is a safety issue for us to know who should be on campus. ID Badges are made in the CRC between 11:30 - 12:00 daily.
hConnect Support Meetings- Are you new to ORLA and/or new to homeschooling? Are you a returning family who would like to meet others and learn more about ORLA? All are welcome! ORLA is offering a series of meetings that will focus on building connections and sharing information related to homeschooling. See below for schedule of upcoming meetings. Our meetings will take place from 10:30-11:25 AM in Room 120 with Laura Herman, teacher and Dean of Students at ORLA. Both new & experienced homeschooling parents are invited!

MAST is decorating for the Winter Festival on November 23 and will be providing childcare, face painting, crafts, and games for donations to help pay for end of year camp. MAST students will get to study a variety of ecosystems, experience life pre-colonization by the Nisqually Nation, and study pioneers of the United States after westward expansion while attending end-of-year camp.

ORLA's 2019 Winter Festival is looking for more crafty students and parents!
This year's Festival will take place on November 23rd from 11 am to 2 pm in the Commons. (Please note that the student vendor form that went out a week ago incorrectly had the previous year's date.) It features a craft fair with handmade goods - students and non-student vendors in past years have sold and traded anything from jewelry, art, and slime to churros, chocolates, and wizard wands. In order to participate, all you have to do is email [email protected] with your name, the name of your parent/guardian, what items you wish to sell, a good phone number and email address, and whether you'd like a full or half table. For non-student vendors, there is a $25 table fee that helps cover the cost of the festival as well as benefit enrichment activities for ORLA students.
The deadline to apply has been extended to November 20th. If you know of any local businesses that would be interested in hosting a table, please invite them to apply! The only criteria is that the items must be made by the seller or their personal business - for example, bath products made by a local business at a table hosted by one of the employees would be appropriate, while MLM sales from larger organizations such as Lularoe and Scentsy would not.
There will be food and drink available for purchase from the ORLA PTA, a face-painting station, a silly photo booth, and more! This is a wonderful community event that showcases our students' talent and teaches valuable business skills. Hope to see you there!
