Professional Development for teachers and principals:ORLA orcas

During the 2017-2018 school year, the Olympia School District is providing professional development in the areas of English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, the Teacher/Principal Evaluation Program, Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports and Foundations of Cultural Responsiveness. The district welcomes any suggestions or comments about teacher and principal professional development from parents and our community members at large. Please direct any comments to a building administrator or to the OSD office of Teaching and Learning at 360-596- 8540.

When should children stay home?

These guidelines are meant to help decrease illness so your children can in the best environment for learning. Please cover all wounds and encourage hand washing. If you have questions, please feel free to contact the school nurse. Thank you!!!

 

Fever over 100 degrees

Return when no fever for at least 24 hours. Temperature under 100 degrees, without the assistance of medication.

Diarrhea or vomiting

Return 24 hours after diarrhea and/or vomiting stops.

Rashes with fever or itching

Return with physician note and/or no longer present for at least 24 hours. No fever for 24 hrs.

Sore Throat

Recommend consulting physician. Stay at home at least 24 hrs after starting antibiotic treatment. Stay home if uncomfortable.

Head lice or scabies

Return when head lice or scabies treated & nits/eggs removed. Wait for at least 24 hrs & must be rechecked by the nurse or health room assistant upon return.

Cough with congestion or fever

Return when cough has lessened, or illness has been treated by a physician.

Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye) is highly contagious

Return with physician note

Strep Throat

Return when diagnosed & at least 24 hrs after starting antibiotic treatment.

Chicken Pox

May return to school after all lesions have formed crusts, usually 5-10 days after the start of rash.

MAST

  • MAST is a 7th & 8th-grade full-time option available to currently enrolled ORLA students. If you are a current 6th or 7th grader and are interested in MAST for 7th or 8th grade, plan to attend the MAST information meeting on February 28th @ 6:00 pm. Questions should be directed to Laura Herman and Karina Champion.

Montessori

  • Lower Elementary field trip to Point Defiance Zoo will be on Friday, Feb. 16th.
  • Next year, Montessori will be enrolling for Pre-K and Kindergarten.
  • Are you returning to ORLA Montessori next year? Be sure to let us know on this survey! Thank you!
  • Mr. Alison has been treating the office with pop-up concerts and we LOVE it! This is particularly awesome because students participate from hConnect, MAST, & Montessori!

 

Volunteer Opportunities

  • Your participation in PTA counts for the volunteer hours! Be sure to attend tomorrow’s DECA Cowboy BBQmeeting!
