Communications Focus Groups: We Need You!

The Olympia School District is currently conducting a district-wide Communications Audit, led by the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA), to enhance our communication practices and better serve our students, staff, families and community. As part of this audit, NSPRA will facilitate 10 focus groups with various stakeholders (see below).

Taking the Next Step with Transition Academy

Our Olympia School District’s Transition Academy is empowering post-secondary students, bridging the gap between high school and adulthood. This unique four-year program (ages 18-22) focuses on essential skills like interviewing, resume building, and community engagement. Their team is dedicated to helping students navigate the complexities of adult life, this program offers real-world experiences that promote independence and community involvement. 3D Printed OSD Community Mosaic

OHS Student Orion Hoppe (class of 2024) worked with the Maker’s Den to create the design which is a mosaic of 3D printed parts inspired by the 'We the Builders' project. Mr. Woodbridge’s Advanced 3D Design & Fabrication students will be managing the project, collecting the parts, and assembling the mosaic.

The Olympia School District is conducting a district-wide survey to gather input about its communications efforts. All staff, parents/guardians, and community members are invited to take a 15-minute anonymous online survey from Monday, September 30, through Wednesday, October 15, 2024.

October is Walk to School Month

The Olympia School District has proclaimed October 2024 as Walk to School Month ​ Olympia School Board Director, Jess Tourtellotte-Palumbo read the proclamation during the September 12, 2024 Olympia School Board meeting. Copies of the proclamation will be posted in all district schools and support buildings. ​ The proclamation states in part that in October, children, families and community leaders from around the world will join together for Walk to School events “to increase awareness about the health and environmental benefits of walking and biking to school.”

Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) Testing: Sept. 23 - Oct. 18

Students in grades 1-11 will take part in MAP Growth testing from NWEA on a district-provided device. MAP Growth scores help teachers check student performance by measuring achievement and growth. Teachers will use those results to tailor classroom lessons and set student goals.

Washington State DOH launches Safety Study Hall

The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) recently published the Safety Study Hall website, a place for schools, students, and families to learn more about safety topics. Additional information about the site can be found below, including the House Bill 1230 content and links to state laws that provide schools, school districts, and educational service districts with direction on their next steps.
